Ditch that car of yours and get your legs moving! The average car produces three tonnes of co2 a year - walking or cycling produces none. It's a healthy and cheap alternative and it helps you keep your butt in nice shape!

Use a laptop instead of a computer


They may not save you from square eyes but laptops typically run on just a third of the energy used by a desktop PC and are more convenient to carry around right? I mean surfing the web while tucked up in bed is just great!

By applying a little imagination to your existing wardrobe, you can make your clothes last longer and reduce their climate change impact! Why not stretch your wardrobe by customising outfits or refashioning them with accessories from older items?

Switch off standby


A gadget left on 'standby' isn't really off. Gadgets you think are turned off may still be draining electricity on the sly. Unplugging one electric toothbrush might not seem such a big deal: but what about that DVD player, oh and the microwave, and the printer, and the games console, and the digital radio. Turning them all off at the mains can zap 8% off your annual electricity bill.

They're quicker and not only do they save time they save vital energy so its time to clean up our act and take more showers! Showers also speed up that morning rush when your family are fighting for who gets to use the bathroom next so get everybody involved.

It's an obvious one but it's the cheapest and barely requires any hard work - recycling! Reducing, reusing and recycling waste saves on the raw materials and energy which are needed to make new paper, metal, glass and other items.

Stop junk mail


If you're always getting useless junk post through the mail then put an end to it by contacting your local post office and sending back unwanted mail. Also ask your bank to stop sending you promotional nonsense. Much of the information you need can be found online so cancel written bank statements and bank online. Even mobile phone and utility bills can be followed over the internet and most companies offer a discount for 'paperless billing'

If you're one of those people that sign up to a gym on a monthly basis and never make the most of your membership then instead go for a run around your block or local park. This will save the energy of gym equipment and you'll find an extra bit of money in your pocket from that gym membership you neglected!

Dry your washed clothes outside


Put your dirty linen out there! If the weather's good put your clothes out to dry to save energy transmitted from washing machines. Drying clothes on a washing line creates no emissions and saves a decent amount a year in fuel bills. Plus, drying your clothes in the fresh air doesn't risk shrinking them and shortening their lifespan.

Cutting down on your meat and diary


Wave goodbye to that mega-burger because that new diet plan has more than one positive. By halving the amount of beef you eat, you could save almost as much CO2 as recycling for a year.
